Hook Me - Excerpt

The latch snapped. I could do this. The nearness of him dulled my fear.

His fingers brushed against my mound, sending an electric current through my body, as he grabbed the latched. “Safe and secure,” he said, pulling on the latch with a chuckle.

I opened my eyes and looked down at him. “I wouldn’t use either of those words right now,” I said as I smacked his shoulder.

I wasn’t talking about parasailing either.

“Come on, beautiful. There’s no turning back now. Up ya go,” he said, grabbing my legs and throwing me my over his shoulder.

I squealed as I flopped against his body, my chest colliding with his shoulder. I smacked his back; bouncing as I kicked trying to break free. “Put me down!” I yelled and laughed.

“My view is too damn good to do that, Doc,” he said and swatted my ass.

“Pig.” I reached down and tried pinched his ass.

Fucker was rock solid and I could barely get enough between my fingers.

“Nice try,” he said, unaffected by my effort and swatting me on the ass again.

I yelped, the sting from palm making me wish I could reach back and rub the tender spot. “Ugh,” I said as I bounced and grew slack in his arms, finally defeated.

The beach disappeared as he stepped on the boat. “Will you put me down now, please?” I asked, trying to sound sweet as sugar.

“If I must,” he said before placing a light kiss against my hip.

I closed my eyes and tried not to think about it, about him. The feel of his mouth against skin that hadn’t been touched in so long had me at my breaking point.

He wrapped his arms around my legs, pushing the harness into me, before pulling my body down against him. He controlled the speed, making the journey to my feet as drawn out as possible.

By the time my feet touched the boat I forgot how scared I had been. The sexual frustration I felt trumped everything. “You’re not safe,” I whispered as I looked up at him with one eye, the sun behind his head almost blinding me.

He laughed, pulling me against his shaking body. “Doc, I’ll make sure you survive the trip up there.” He bent down rubbing his nose against mine.

“It’s not the ride I’m talking about, Michael.”

“I know.” He smiled and kissed me, his lips shaking under mine from the laughter still rumbling through his chest.

Excerpt:  Until Nico

I look around and see a guy staring at me. He’s about my age, not much taller than
my five feet five inches, cute, and wearing a suit and tie. I start to wave to see if
he’s the one I’m meeting, but then another guy catches my attention. He’s about six
three and huge, and I don’t mean just in height; his body looks like it’s been
chiseled from stone. He’s wearing black boots, washedout blue jeans, and a white
tshirt, and every piece of skin exposed is covered with tattoos. His ears have those
gauge thingies in them. His dark blond hair is cut low on the sides, and the top is in
a fauxhawk. His jaw is strong, with a few days of stubble, and his eyes are so blue
that they almost look like contacts. He is beautiful in a way that is unusual but no
less gorgeous.

His eyes come to me before looking away quickly, and the next second, they come
back to me and do a headtotoe sweep. I gulp at the intense expression on his
face. I glance past him to the other guy—or at least try to—but Mr. Tattoo starts
towards me, blocking my view. I want to take a step back, but I can’t go anywhere.
Then I see my phone in his hand.

“This yours?” he asks.

I nod like an idiot. He shakes his head, running his free hand down his face, and
then his eyes sweep over me again.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” he says, seeming upset.

I look down at myself, wondering how I could’ve offended him. I look normal—or
my workingoutsidethehouse normal. When I’m at home working, I wear baggy
sweats I cut off to make shorts or pajama pants that hang off of me along with tank
tops or Tshirts. The few days a week I get out of the house, I like to dress up or at
least wear heels.

“This cannot be fucking happening,” he growls, and I wonder if he is completely
crazy.

“What?” I ask, finally finding my voice. I have to tilt my head way back; even in my
fourinch heels, he still towers over me.

“You.”

“Me, what?” I ask, confused.

“Never mind. Who is this?” He presses the button on my phone, the screen lights
up, and a picture of Jamie Dornan wearing nothing but a pair of jeans takes up the
screen.

“Um…that’s Jamie,” I reply, wondering why he is asking but too afraid to ask him; the look on his face isn’t very inviting for conversation.

“He your man?”

“I wish,” I mumble under my breath and hear him growl.

My head flies back as I search his face; his jaw is ticking, and his knuckles of the
hand holding my phone are turning white.

“What does that mean?” he asks.

“That’s Jamie Dornan. He’s playing Fifty. I don’t know him.” I feel my cheeks heat
up and look down at my feet.

What the hell’s wrong with me? Why am I not afraid right now? I have been
scared of virtually everything my whole life, and now, when I should be running for
cover, I’m not scared at all. Just a little embarrassed.

“I don’t have time for this,” he says, and I don’t know what he’s talking about, but
I all of a sudden really want my phone out of his hand before he crushes it to
smithereens.

When I look up again, I see that he is walking away. My eyebrows come together,
and I wonder what he is doing. Then I realize he still has my cell.

“Hey! You can’t steal my phone!” I run after him, grabbing his arm.

He looks down at me then stops short. I’m completely caught off guard when he
wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against him. His free hand goes
into my hair and pulls my head back, and then he kisses me. No, not kisses—he
consumes me. My body starts to buzz like someone just plugged me into an
electrical outlet, and I start to feel lightheaded. When he pulls his mouth from mine,
I gasp, my fingers going to my lips.

“What was that?” I whisper, looking into his eyes.

“What’s your name?” he asks, still holding me close.

“Sophie,” I tell him, my answer spoken behind my fingers.

His body is as hard as a rock against mine; I can feel every muscle, every contour,
and it takes everything in me to keep breathing. I realize this is the first time in my
life I have ever felt small, my curvy figure never having allowed it before.

“Sophie,” he repeats, standing up to his full height and pulling me with him. I look around and wonder if time has stopped for anyone else.  “My name is Nico.”

“Of course it is,” I say, staring into his amazing eyes, thinking that a guy who looks
like him would have a name like that—cool and hot, something that rolls easily off
your tongue but is hard to forget.

“I’ll see you when I get back into town, Sophie,” he says as he lets me go, making
sure I’m steady on my feet.

“What?” I ask, looking around again.

“Here’s your phone.” He hands me my cell, and I’m still a little lightheaded when he
starts to walk off again. I watch in a daze as he leaves, but then he turns around to
face me from a few yards away.  “Sophie?”

“Yeah?”

“Change the picture on your phone,” he demands before he turns and disappears
into the crowd

My Review

WOW. WOW. WOW.

Aurora Rose Reynolds is one of my favourite authors. And when this series lands in my inbox I am SO excited, like a kid at Christmas receiving the best gift. This series is amazing. And I don't know about you, but I seriously want a Mayson brother for myself.

If you haven't read any of the books in this series, you REALLY, REALLY don't know what your missing. And I strongly advise you to start from the beginning.

Until Nico, Is AMAZING. Nico is one of the Mayson brothers, he worked in construction with Asher, Trevor and Cash but sold his share to go and work for his cousin Kenton. Nico is built, has tattoos. And the Mayson curse has hit as soon as he sees Sophie. A school Librarian.

I love this series. It pulls you in from the first pages. You would expect that even though we are on the fourth book, and you can read them as stand alone, but I wouldn't recommend it, that the stories would start getting a bit washed out or you think they should of been finished at three books.

THIS IS SO NOT THE CASE WITH THESE BOOKS, IN FACT, YOU WANT TO KEEP READING ON AND ON.

I really cant pick my favourite of the Mayson brothers, they are all my favourite. They are all Hot, Alpha Sexy men who idolise there women and families. What more could you ask. I love that even though these books are about one of the brothers at a time the rest of them are still in there.

This book was read in one go. Once you start you cant help getting sucked in to the Mayson Brother world. It's essential you read it in one go. Just make sure that you have no disruptions. You will not want to be disturbed.

Aurora, This series is exceptional. The Characters are amazingly written. Until Nico is Fantastic, thrilling, sexy. And everything you could want out of a book.

I give this 5/5 stars and 5/5 stars for movie moments.

Blog Tour - Beware By Shanora Williams

Synopsis

Ace is bad.

Very bad.

After losing my brother, I know I should stay away. So why can’t I?
He’s irresistible. He’s confident. He’s amazing… but he’s dangerous.
He was there the night my brother was murdered. He watched it all go down.
I should stay away. The things I saw weren’t acceptable.
I should want Ace as far away from me as possible—I should consider him a monster and a threat—but when my life is at stake I know I no longer have a choice of the matter. He's the only one that can protect me.

He's done what he can to keep me out of danger, but it's not enough. I need answers. I need the truth. He refuses to give it to me, and because of that I don't trust him. He refuses to tell me what really happened and to just forget about it but I refuse.

I won’t back down until I get answers.

But there’s one thing wrong with getting too many answers. It leads to lies. It leads to trouble. It leads to danger. But worst of all, it leads to me falling deeply and madly in love with him.
I’ve gotta be out of my mind.

London Stallone hasn’t always had the perfect life, but she did have the perfect older brother. He did everything for her. He took care of her when no one else would. He’s always been the shoulder she could lean on, but when he ends up murdered, things turn for the worst.

London soon demands answers, and the first person she runs to is her brother’s co-worker and good friend, Donovan “Ace” Crow. Ace isn’t the ordinary guy. He doesn’t come equipped with flowers and chocolate. He doesn’t hand out smiles and hugs to every female he meets. He’s strict and only about business, and London believes he’s a part of the reason her brother was murdered.

Soon, after finding out life-threatening news, it leads to something Ace never thought he’d have to do for anyone.

Protect her.

Although he doesn't want her to get hurt, it doesn't stop him from being selfish or bitter. He's promised to protect her, but has he done enough? Has he sacrificed everything in order to keep London out of harms way?

Sometimes love can get in the way of your priorities. And sometimes love can easily become your enemy—you worst nightmare. It can destroy you.

This is a story full of dishonesty. Disloyalty. Broken hearts. Pain. Suffering. Lies. Destruction. This isn’t a fairytale love story. This is real. And it just might break you.

Excerpt

Footsteps start up the complex stairs. They’re heavy. Slow. I try to control my breathing, but it’s nearly impossible. I’m terrified. My heart is pounding in my chest. The room that was once my sanctuary – my getaway—now feels like a trap. A prison. I can hardly breathe.

Sealing my eyes, I listen as his footsteps get closer to my door until finally he stops. It’s quiet for a moment. I think he’s got his ear to the door, hoping to hear something.

Then, he bangs on it, and I gasp. I don’t get up though. He can’t get in. The door is locked, and the chain is on. I don’t think he’d be dumb enough to kick the door in, knowing I have neighbors. Good thing they’re nosey. They’ll come looking for the noise immediately just to complain.

“London, I know you’re in there! Car’s in the parking lot.” His voice is no longer calm and casual. It’s angry and demanding. “Open the door.”

I don’t say anything, but I do stand and hold the knife in front of me just in case. I slowly walk out of my bedroom and towards the living room.

“Open it or I’ll kick it down. I don’t give a fuck who sees me.”

I gulp and gasp at the same time, producing an unexpected and very loud burp. It’s certainly loud enough for Ace to hear.

Instantly, the door swings open and hits the wall with a forceful thud. I scream as I fall on my side. When I look up, Ace is standing between the frames of the door, adjusting his tie. All I can make out is his shadow, but I can feel his eyes hard on me.

Stepping inside, he coolly shuts the door behind him. I scramble away with the knife in my hand. When I get to my feet, I dash for my bedroom and grab the telephone. He chases after me, warning me not to do anything stupid.

I dial 9, but I’m not given the chance to finish. He snatches the phone out of my hand and slams it down. I spin around, bringing the butcher knife in front of me again. Ace takes a quick step back, glaring down at the sharp blade piercing the darkness. Then, a slow smirk forms on his lips, the lips I hate that I once admired.

“I’ll cut you,” I threaten.

“You won’t,” he says boldly.

“I won’t?” I hiss, bringing the edge of the blade to his neck. “Don’t test me. I will.”

He raises his hands in the air, shaking his head. “When’s the last time you sharpened this thing, huh? Three years ago? It’s as dull as a fucking nun.”

“I don’t give a shit! I can still cut you with it! Just… sit down!” I demand, circling him, knife still clutched in my hands and at his neck. “On the bed.”

He frowns. “No.”

“I don’t wanna hurt you, but if I have to I will!” I shout, voice wavering.

“That’s the thing… you won’t.” His tone is even.

I keep my tears back and my emotions behind me for now. I don’t want him to think I’m weak. I don’t want him to get away either. But deep inside, I know I won’t hurt him. I won’t cut him. I’m too afraid to shed blood after seeing so much already.

With a bored sigh, Ace snatches the knife out of my hand and tosses it out of my bedroom. It skids across the hard, wooden floorboards, causing a clanking noise that makes my ears ring. I gasp and scramble after it, but he grabs my arm and shoves me against the nearest wall. It’s not a hard shove. Nor does it hurt. But I’m still afraid.

As I tremble, he brings one of his large hands up and locks my face between his fingers. His eyes stare deeply into mine, and his nostrils flare. From the slit of light filtering in through my window, he looks pissed. I know he’s going to kill me. I’m a witness.

“Listen to me,” he grumbles. His warm breath spills down my chest, across my cleavage. “I told you I’m not going to hurt you.”

“Why wouldn’t you?” I breathe, voice shaky.

“I won’t. I’m not the one that killed Jonah. They did.” Hearing Jonah’s name causes fiery tears to build in my eyes.

“It’s your fault. I know it. Why wouldn’t they kill you, too?” I ask. “What were you doing there anyway? Why was Jonah there? Why did they kill him?” All of this is spilling out of me. I’m outraged. I’m pissed that Ace is still alive and my brother isn’t. I’m terrified. I’m… I’m a mess.

“Listen to me!” he demands, releasing my face to lock his hands on my shoulders. “I don’t know why they killed Jonah, alright? I don’t know why they didn’t kill me. But you have to understand… it’s what we do. It’s what Jonah signed up for. It’s business, and we can’t help when shit gets bloody.”

I process his words, giving them some thought. “So… you’re the one that got him into that shit? What is it? What’d you promise him? I know Jonah, and I know he wouldn’t do something this bad without getting something in exchange.”

“I didn’t promise him shit.” Ace runs one hand through his slick hair. “He knew what he was getting into. He was money-hungry, just like everyone else. It was a mistake… him coming to Atlanta.”

“How was that a mistake?” I demand. “I invited him. I graduated!”

Ace tilts his chin to meet my eyes. His are dark, and if I’m not mistaken, watery. I’m not given the chance to figure it out completely because he blinks, and just like that, he’s angry again. “Don’t go to the cops. It’ll only get you killed.”

And with that, he releases me and walks out of my bedroom. I follow after him, grabbing his arm before he can get out the front door. “Killed by who? You?” I’m keeping my voice steady, but deep inside, I’m scared out of my fucking mind.

Ace stares at me briefly. He then slides his fingers into his front pockets, turns his back to me, and walks out my splintered front door.

My Review

I loved this book. I read it in one go. It compelled me from the start.

London's life is turned upside down and back to front at her graduation. The one day that she's meant to remember for the right things, not the things that changed her life.

I couldn't read this book fast enough. I think it pulled every emotion from me. Everything about this book is right, there is nothing that didn't fit. The characters, pace, plot. There's something in here for everyone, angst, suspense, romance.

I love all the character's, but I think London and Ace were my favourites. Two head strong characters. that despite everything they fell in love.

I am not going to give a long review for fear of giving anything away.

The only thing I am going to say is GO AND BUY IT. But be warned you will need a lockable room with this one.

This gets 5/5 stars
